I am human after all.

Digital Journal- Analog Thoughts

My dad died September 9th, 2003 (six weeks before this record came out, on October 21st, the day Elliott Smith died, two very inconceivable and very different losses I’m still absorbing). My father, the 68-year-old retired NYPD Lieutenant, who’d struggled to make sense of my teenaged infatuation with Kurt Cobain because he could tell it was important to me, who once watched me play a set in my socialist friend Freedom’s basement, who, as paired with my mom, is the main reason I’m writing this, writing anything.

This was the last record I made that he heard.

I played it for him and my mom in his car after having lunch at a German beer bar/restaurant on Staten Island. He said ‘Marie’ sounded like it should be played in the Grand Ole Opry. He said he was proud.

I am too.
